This small, yet sometimes significant, update to the Windows 7/8.1 x64 platform is available for download now. This new version features a laundry list of updates and improvements. This includes a new audio driver, a slew of fixes to the Mail app, and improved compatibility with certain USB devices. Before you install the update, it may be best to backup your files as this is an in-place upgrade installation which will overwrite all files. Simply go into Control Panel > System and Security > Backup and then choose 'Create a system image.' For those who want some peace of mind before installation, there are also Windows 7/8.1 x64 ISO images available on Microsoft's website for download too! Microsoft has provided their own instructions on how to perform this update at https://www.microsoft. com/en-us/software-download/windows7upgrade. In the instructions, it is noted that this update will be done in a step by step method during the initial installation. This means any user actions will have no effect on the operating system and should not be interrupted at any time. The process may take up to 60 minutes and is recommended to run on a secondary computer while it's performing. Windows 7 users can simply download that ISO image and burn it to DVD ahead of time if they'd like to avoid installing Windows 7 x64 via an update disc (it's also available on Microsoft's website for download too). Note: Windows 8.1 users can also use the tool to upgrade to Windows 10 Pro as it's now a qualified product as well.
