Xilinx, a company that designs digital logic and programmable devices, has released the latest version of their ISE Design Suite. This program offers a variety of tools for designing, managing, programming and debugging embedded systems. The Xilinx ISE Design Suite v13.4 is a major update to an already feature-rich program. It includes a new RTL design browser, new constraint-based placement tool, C synthesis enhancements and more. See the complete list of new features here: http://www.xilinx.com/products/ise-design-suite/features-and-support/13_4_new_features.htm In addition to the suite of tools released in this edition, there are other tools available for download from Xilinx's web site, including software support for automotive applications, FPGA configuration software and the Vivado Design Suite for embedded development. The Xilinx ISE Design Suite v13.4 is available for free for "qualified educational users" or can be purchased for $995 for commercial use. For more information on the suite, go to: http://www.xilinx.com/products/ise-design-suite/ In addition to the ISE design tools, Xilinx has been releasing a series of free tools and applications designed to make FPGAs more accessible and easier to use. Some of these tools include the following: ISE WebPACK – A free web-based tool which provides you with a "virtual prototyping environment". It allows you to configure your FPGA, simulate it within the browser and then download the configuration file for use with the ISE Design Suite. Check out this video for more information: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mc_iMnxDG80 ISE Design Tools – A collection of free tools to create multi-FPGA applications using C, VHDL or Verilog. Includes the following: Blaze – A graphical programming environment that allows you to visually design embedded systems using VHDL or Verilog. FatBit – A tool for performing bit-slice FPGA synthesis. Virtual Prototyping Environment – A simple tool to simulate your design on screen or to generate an EDIF netlist.
